Eight Years On: The Story I Never Expected to Write

Celebrating 8 Years And a Message to Exam Staff and Small Business Owners Everywhere

 

Today is my business anniversary –  eight years old.

 

Exam Officers & Data Solutions 8th Anniversary

It is a milestone I never could have imagined when I first stepped into a school all those years ago to support a team who, in their words, had “got themselves in a pickle” after their exams manager had been off long-term. At the time, I was not lost but I was at a crossroads. I had helped a start up exams company/organisation with people I then considered friends. I was also working for a nationally recognised management information system support company.  Neither venture allowed me to be the best version of myself.  I was just about surviving and I certainly was not thriving.  With a heavy heart I walked away from them both.  I was emotionally and physically tired.

By then I had already worked in exams for many years, but I never imagined that moment would lead me to building a company of my own  and now, eight years later, globally operating exams training and consultancy company, working with centres across the UK and overseas and a company that is continuously growing. I have had the privilege of supporting hundreds of centres, training thousands of exam officer and building a company that I am genuinely proud of. A company that is rooted in professionalism and integrity. A small but mighty company!

I have learned so much along the way and some things have remained absolutely clear:

 

To exam staff  – we hear you, we support you and in the right environment, you grow

Your work is demanding, detailed and often invisible to the outside world. Yet you bring professionalism, resilience and care every single day. Supporting you has been one of the greatest privileges of my career.

Small business owners are extraordinary

They carry the vision, the pressure, the admin, the doubt, the excitement, the responsibility and the courage – often all in the same day. They build something from nothing. They turn ideas into services. They grow through setbacks. And most of the time, they do it quietly.

To every small business owner reading this:
You are more capable, resilient and remarkable than you ever give yourself credit for.

If my eight-year journey has taught me anything, it is things grow when you nurture them and small businesses are no exception.
